Ecology is much discussed topic today. Because the world and humanity are at the risk from the environmental crisis which is caused by the greed of man for uncontrolled pleasure, consumption and prosperity. The global interdependence of development and underdevelopment, the negative cultural value of consumption etc., perpetuate and aggravate this problem. The modern man placing himself at the entire of the universe, simply abuses the earth and its resources for his pleasure and happiness. This attitude led to the destruction of the balance of eco-system; and nature began to restort. As a result, man is facing the consequences of his own misdeeds, people are gradually becoming aware of the extreme necessity of protecting eco-system. Every year on 5th June, the world observes Environment Day to remind the people of the protection of Earth, on which we depend for our life and for which we begin to feel responsible. Today more, more people are becoming aware of the ecological responsibility.
It seems the present day, our worldview considers nature as something that can be used and abused for our present convenience. This worldview does not give any intrinsic value to the creatures, but only instrumental value. The ideology behind this worldview is anthropocentric thinking. This thinking placed man as the centre of universe. Everything in this world is meant for him to use as he desires and for his development.
Everyone has a social moral responsibility towards ecological issues. In order too carry out this responsibility, we have to overcome the so called anthropocentric thinking, and it is to be substituted by an eco-centric worldview.
